You Like Names that Are Retro and Fashionable

You like names that are from the past but becoming modern again.

Names with a strong history are very appealing to you.

You're a big believer in giving children very adult sounding names.

You're not a fan of nicknames or newfangled spellings.

Some female names you might like: Audrey, Emma, Fiona, Georgia, Isabelle, Naomi, Rosemary, and Veronica

Some male names you might like: Brendan, Colin, Ethan, Jared, Kenneth, Martin, and Nathaniel

What Kind of Names Do You Like?

Okay, I do like names that are retro and fashionable and I can't bear newfangled spellings or cutesy names that are just going to sound stupid when the child grows up.   I like all of their girls' names except Rosemary and Veronica, though none of the others are in my top three.  But in what world are Ethan and Jared retro-fashionable names?  There's not one of the boys' names I'd seriously consider.  Though, since Kenneth was my grandfather's name, I wouldn't utterly rule it out.  But Brendan?!  Ugh.

Roxhythe?

Elvendork Roxhythe has a nice ring to it.

Lovely. I'm sure the hypothetical future of my hypothetical future child can have no objects to such a glorious name. Elvendork Roxhythe would surely grow up to achieve great things!

And if all else fails, call them 'Ellie'. Or 'Roxie'.

Definitely Elvendork Stewart.

I took your name test and it turned out the same as all the tests about clothes, hairstyle, make-up, and movies. I am Classic and Timeless. Maybe that is why my house is full of Danish Modern furniture.

If we ever get the puppy I want (hopefully by the fall at the latest), I am totally naming he/she Elvendork!

*For a human baby, I prefer Elvendork for a middlename. ;P*

*hugs*

Ha, I got the same one. And, ironically, if I had a daughter she'd have been Idalee, Emma, or Iva Mae.

I got the same thing at first, then went back and changed one answer, as I hadn't been sure whether I like Alexandra better than Caitlyn. Well, with the second choice I got a completely different result. I now apparently like names that are popular and modern (as opposed to retro hehehe). There may be some truth to it, though, since:

1. Their assertion that "You prefer names you've heard quite a bit and know well" goes without saying, seeing as I'm not a native English speaker, and so I can't prefer names I haven't heard a lot (btw, I was going to ask, is Elvendork an actual name, or did Jo make it up?). Some rare Celtic names I'm not even sure I believe to be real, as they are entirely too strange for my Latin ear.

2. Their lists include Megan for girls, and Logan for boys - and I do like these names, especially Megan (heh...). However, it's possible that I like Megan b/c it is similar to my real name, which I actually love. Megan sounds a bit smoother, but it ends in a consonant like masculine names, which makes my feminist soul happy. :-)

if my first daughter had been a boy we were going to use jared and it was still a second choice for Logan - I never knew I was retro!

you do realise that when you actually do have children everyone is going to remind you of this?

Yes. I don't think there's any danger likelihood of that ever happening.

ha! that's what I said right up to the day I got pregnant with the first one (that I supposedly wasn't meant to be able to conceive) and now I have three of them!

I was the ultimate career girl and most of my colleagues expected me back at work within six months - seven years later *whistles* and no return to work in sight

I got the same answer as you, which doesn't surprise me given the choices in the questions! Most of them were terrible. Not a very comprehensive quiz though. I agree with the description except I have nothing against nicknames - I do like longer names that shorten well into something less formal for everyday. But I like short names too, and names that sound gender-neutral even if they aren't. I have a friend who always spells my name "Joe" and I love her for it. Not Elvendork though, you can keep it ;)

There are very few names on either of those lists I like. None of them are horrible - except Jared - ugh - and I'm not keen on Veronica either!

But in what world are Ethan and Jared retro-fashionable names?
Presumably this isn't a British quiz - because these sound like modern imports to me!

Yes, I agree about nicknames. I wouldn't give a child the shortened form as their official name, but I'd certainly like them to have a name that could be shortened.

I got the same as you!

I do like Jared, but the men in my family are already in the 'approximately the height and shoulder-width of your average doorframe' category without any encouragement from the shade of Jared Padalecki.

"Holden" as a boy's name in one of the choices? That's an Australian car make! Out here, if you named your kid Holden, you'd immediately condemn him to a lifetime of ridicule, especially from Ford fans.

I hate parents who saddle their kids with names that are going to sound ridiculous on an adult. The other day, I saw a story in the paper, mentioning a kid named Chardonnae Breeze! I kid you not - I suppose siblings will get names such as Cabernet Zephyr or Pinot Gale.
