There's been a flurry of sewing activity here since Christmas. Partly because I've been on holiday and partly because I now have a dedicated sewing table in my dedicated sewing room.

The bag I made from the fabric I bought in NYC with [livejournal.com profile] dogstar101

I used most of it in the lining. Yum. *strokes lining* The outside of the bag is mainly from an old pair of jeans.

And this is the scrap that's left. Hmm, wonder what to make with that...

Baby quilt for some friends who had a little girl a couple of weeks ago. I also made another baby quilt recently but forgot to take pictures of that one, sorry. It had lots of bright, primary colours and fun animals - pink elephants and stripey tigers and smiling crocodiles.

Close up of the fabrics I used for this one. I just love the tiny pictures. You can't tell at all that the dogs got to the parcel of fabric first and played with it happily in the mud before it was rescued, washed and sewn. ;)

I'm also knitting a very complicated pair of socks that I keep having to undo. It has a criss-crossing cable pattern that I'm beginning to wonder whether it's worth the effort. On Friday night I finally succumbed to pleas for knitting lessons from the landlords' 9-yr-old son. I've never taught anyone to knit before and it was harder than I expect. Still, he was inordinately proud of the result and persuaded his parents to take him to buy needles and wool on Saturday!

I know! As soon as I saw that fabric I knew I had to have it.

Love the bag - and I love linings - they're like a little secret. :)

The baby quilt looks soft and cozy - your friend must have been thrilled.

I'm growing to love linings. Part of me always wants to have all the pretty on display. But I do like the secret too. The quilt has a very lived-in look. I like the faded colours and the crinkled fabric. I haven't sent it yet - I just finished it today so I'll post it tomorrow. But I think she'll like it. We have very similar tastes.

I was on another forum earlier today and someone was posting using 'your' heart on the beach icon. It was very confusing!

Really gorgeous colours in that lining, and looks great with the denim.

Hmm - what to make with the remnant? Hard to assess the size of the remnant, but would you have enough to do a small zipper bag/pouch for make-up or other bits and pieces to take inside the big bag? As the material is striped, perhaps an edging on something using the stripes, or even cut on the bias as piping? Or even just a few interesting shapes applique'ed onto something?

I love the contrast of the silk with the denim. A small bag might work. Probably I'll just end up saving it for the right moment - which may never come!

I *love* the bag--and the lining is sooo luxurious. Totally in love with that one! Well done--it looks like you had a lot of fun making it. :-)

I also really like the baby quilt prints--not too 'baby-ish' but still so sweet. The animals are just darling. I particularly like the frogs and the porcupines.

What fun, Ros!

I love the prints too. I like how from a distance the quilt looks like an ordinary floral pattern, and it's only when you get close that you can see it's bugs and frogs and elephants!

You could sell your crafts...you're that good.

Lovely colors and terrific fabrics.

I have sold things in the past, but it's not a way of making money. The time it takes to make stuff and the maximum price you can sell for don't really correlate. So mainly I just make for me and for presents, now.

Beautiful, all of it! The lining is gorgeous, and the back that we get a glimpse of looks just so too (I'm more partial to saturated, darker colours, so I guess that's why). It must be a joy to put your hand into your book bag every time you do so. I agree with Mary - linings are like hidden secret. And a well lined jacket or coat is hard to beat.
