*waves at everyone*

I'm really not a proper HP fan.  I like the books and I'm looking forward to my copy arriving from England later this week.  But you know, I was always really just here for the writing and the giggles.

So this is to say that I know I've been quiet round people's LJ's lately and I probably will be until all the general squeeing and debating and dissecting dies down (good alliteration skills there).  I've been reading a bit and commenting very occasionally, but I really don't feel like I'm part of the 'fandom' (and I'm not sure I want to be).

I have been, by choice, completely and utterly 'spoiled' - I even read some of the infamous carpet book a week ago until I decided it was way too much like hard work! - so no need to worry on that front.

Oh, and just to say thanks to TDU for the important info on Charlie's arms.  She also observed that the only other arms that have significance in the books are those marked with the Dark Mark.  I think we can all see how the muscular arms of the best-looking Weasley are an important literary counterpoint and that it was necessary for them to appear again in DH.  *nods in satisfaction*

The brother with Arms

Well, of course Charlie would be mentioned with draconically scarred arms - and I thought about you when I read that part (but did I remember later on? No. Not until now). I love his part as a counterpoint to the DEs, great point. Will have to remember that inupcoming discussions. *makes note* Now he's all yours! When's the wedding??? *grins* We need to be there, to shower you with rice or something similar magical - flutterby seeds, perhaps? No snargaluff pods, I promise.

Hmm. Eloping is becoming an increasingly tempting option.

Let's just hope the haircut grows out. I suppose it's actually almost a year since the wedding so maybe he's looking repectable again. I hope you stay around for the writing and the giggles because that's the real fun of the fandom.

Yes, definitely staying for the writing and the giggles. Just keeping out of the squeeing and arguing that's going on at the moment.

Though I must admit to a certain glow of satisfaction over this morning's work at the Quill. ;)

Yes well done! That's one of my three least favourite 'Quillers gone. I have zero hope of one of the others but the third is the one I did my happy dance because of her leaving announcement!

I'm glancing at the 'Quill but trying to stay out of the arguments and not read the controversial threads - not good for my blood pressure.

reads carpet spoilers ... and this:

And she says she's not a fan. *grin*

Now, I never said I wasn't over-obsessed with minor characters (glances knowingly at Dogstar), it's just that I don't think these are the greatest books ever written (ducks for cover) and I can't bear the endless discussion and dissection of them (see LST).

Actually DH will be the first hardback I own, and HBP is the only other one I own at all - I used to just read library copies. Clearly I've become more impatient - hence carpet spoilers. Oh well.

it's just that I don't think these are the greatest books ever written (ducks for cover) Behind Charlie? ;-) I thought of you when Molly forced the poor bloke into chair for a haircut!

:whispers: I like the thought-world created to play in but I felt there was a lot more 'tell' rather than 'show' in this book and it irritated at times. I mean, I know *why* but still... However, I've said my piece on the book and am off to sort out my OC's.

I didn't realize that you haven't read the book. Yes, Charlie's arms were mentioned *again* and the bad haircut I was telling you about.

No, I'm waiting for the UK edition. I did contemplate going to Barnes and Noble on Saturday but resisted. I really don't need two copies. *grins* Plus I did read all the spoilers and I've been helping mod the forum at the Quill, so I don't think there are too many surprises left.

But I am looking forward to the haircut scene. *giggles*

You know, I suspect I'm not a proper fan either. I mean, I love the books but I don't enjoy the dissection and debating so much - at least, not at such an intense level as that immediately after a book release. I'm working on a post of likes and dislikes and it will likely include a fair amount of squeeing, but the arguing and snarking that *always* accompanies a new book just makes me tired.

You are *too* funny. Yes, Charlie's arms and hair definitely make an appearance...albeit a 'short' one...but I don't think you'll be too disappointed. :-)

I've been checking out the debates on SQ and after a while it's enough to give you a headache! LOL. I think I'll wait for it to die down a bit before commenting...it's overwhelming. Is the person who was banned the one who Zensya addressed directly on the gender thread?

I hope that you do enjoy your book once you get it. It isn't perfect, but the last chapters (minus the epilogue) are quite well done.
