In the last week, I seem to have written three chapters of The Squib. This leaves just one chapter unwritten and the epilogue, which I wrote months ago, to tweak. All being well, I should be done very soon.
I'm excited about finishing - I'm a completer-finisher by nature and I'd always rather have something done than something which might be perfect but never gets finished. And this is my first conscious attempt to write a proper, long story (before I've just meandered). It has an actual plot which I have to say, I'm not utterly persuaded really works and there's at least one big loose end that I need to try and tie up before I'm done, but to have any kind of plot is a first for me too.
It's also a story which predominantly features OC's who I love and am really pleased to have created. I think they're engaging and flawed in about equal measure - like real people!
But I'm a bit uncertain about what next. There's a bit more of the Muggle Girl story to write. I did originally intend my James/Lily fics to be a trilogy, of which I've only written two parts. Though I think that was more because I had a good title for the third than because I really had a story to tell. I also have a couple of more or less unformed ideas for original stories. Or maybe I'll read DH and be inspired with, say, a novel-length fic set in the dragon colony in Romania, for instance. *grins* Or maybe I'll just be too busy to write for a while, anyway.
Oh and just in case anyone was wondering, my beta is having computer trouble, so I've no idea when the latest chapters of The Squib will be up at PS. Sorry.
By the way, Ken, I've voted in the PS challenge. Obviously I voted for the best story - which I think is yours - hope so!

Date: 2007-07-09 01:11 pm (UTC)It takes a long time for me to come up with ideas after finishing something long - so don't be surprised if that happens to you. Another J/L story sounds lovely.

Not sure about J/L. Part one was them getting together; part two was them getting engaged; part three was going to end with the wedding. But they've left Hogwarts and I'm not sure about what they're doing or why or what might be interesting about that at all! We'll see.
