girlyswotToday I am writing a batch of articles for a new bible dictionary. I have just reached 'Caterpillar' and am, of course, reminded of Nurse's scathing comments about Damerel that so puzzled Venetia. I had never previously been able to identify the verse she had in mind, but I think I've just found it. Only, of course, they weren't caterpillars, they were locusts. It's just that biblical Hebrew has about 13 different words for locust and the translators of the KJV wanted to differentiate them. So some of them became caterpillars.
