Thanks for all your helpful advice. I have now booked one night in a B&B near Stirling to break the journey and a week in a B&B in Dingwall with the option to extend it if needed. The B&B in Dingwall have agreed to give me a cheaper than advertised rate for the longer stay. So now I have to get everything here done in the next few days, ready for the long journey starting on Sunday.

You know, it used to take about 14 hours door-to-door when I lived in Philly. This (because I really can't do the drive all in one go) will take about 28 hours. Hmmm.

but good for you for making a decision and going with it!

It's about 450 miles. Google reckons it will take about 8 and 1/2 hours to drive, and I reckon it will take me more than that since I only have a little car which will be full of stuff, and I don't go specially fast anyway. There's no way I'm doing that in one day, since I don't have anyone to share the driving with. So I'll leave at about midday on Sunday and arrive mid-afternoon (or maybe a little earlier) on Monday.

You are very wise to split the journey. I think the B&B is a good idea. Even if you don't take up this flat, it will be easier to find another while you are actually in situ.

Let's hope Mary times her house-warming party so that you can attend.

Yes, lets. Have you heard from Mary? Annette and I have both had emails bounced. I'm hoping she's arrived okay and that it's just an internet problem.

I haven't heard and I haven't attempted o email her. I reckoned she'd contact us when she's eady. By the way, is your email the same or was that just your US address?

Since it's far, you drive alone (in the physical at least), and have a stuffed car which won't be able to go that fast, it sounds like a very good idea to break the journey. Travel safely when you go, with your guardian angels both protecting and helping you.

That sounds like a grand plan! And splitting the trip up seems wise for you--though it's hard to believe it will take you so long to get there!

I assume work will continue on the Shed while you're away, yes? When will you be back at your parent's to see it?

Yes, the work will continue. I'll probably come back at Christmas, by which time it should be finished.

Thanks. Also, your PIF gift is nearly done. I can't remember if you sent me your address already?

My PIF??!!! When on earth did you have time for that? It took me a second, actually, to remember what you were talking about. But thanks thanks thanks! *is dancing a jig*

Can you give me an email address where I can send you my mailing address?

(and please don't worry about this until you find a flat and get settled)
