For the film meme here. The unguessed quotes are:

3. "How old do you have to be before you know the difference between right and wrong? Do you have to be eighteen? Do you have to be eighteen before you can bring yourself to own up to a lie? There are soldiers of eighteen old enough to be left to die on the side of the road! Did you know that?"
This is the most recent film on the list, which came out within the last 12 months. I cried all the way through it.
Atonement, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] brownfach

5. "I said, I said I saw your dad on "Fantasy Island"!"
I love this film - it's pretending to be an action movie, but really it's a romantic comedy with guns. A lot of guns. In unexpected places.
Mr and Mrs Smith, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] bookish327

8. "It's not "show friends." It's show *business*."
One of Tom Cruise's best films (though he didn't say this line).
Jerry Maguire, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] dogstar101

10. Character A: "Plato, in Greek! Not easy." Character B: "Don't you think so?"
I'm not really surprised no one else knows this. It's my most-watched film and it was Helena Bonham Carter's first role.
Lady Jane guessed, brilliantly, by [livejournal.com profile] tdu000

11. "I do this in the name of sports-watching, romantically-minded men; a maligned, misunderstood minority."
A romantic comedy in which perspective really matters. The US title is different from the UK title. This line is spoken by a man behind the customer help desk at Heathrow. Same lead actor as number 9.
Martha Meet Frank, Daniel and Laurence, guessed (sort of) by [livejournal.com profile] tdu000

15.Character A: "Anyway, what's that saying about the sea and there being plenty of fish in it?" Character B: "Ah, yes, but I couldn't possibly marry a fish. I'd be sure to land an old trout."
Film of a play. Not sure if this line was in the original. Might be.
An Ideal Husband, guessed with A LOT of help, by [livejournal.com profile] tdu000

And don't forget there are extra bonus points for anyone who can tell me the movie trivia link between #5 and #13 (Mansfield Park). Well done to [livejournal.com profile] bookish327 who correctly worked out that Jonny Lee Miller who starred in Mansfield Park was once married to Angelina Jolie who starred in Mr and Mrs Smith. I feel that you deserve a prize. Would you like a story? Give me characters/prompts/whatever and I'll see what I can do.

Well done, everyone!

8 has to be Jerry Maguire. 11 feels very familiar but I can't quite get there.

Yes to Jerry Maguire. Would it help if I told you that the character who spoke the line in number 11 worked at a help desk at Heathrow?

I think you should know number 15, too. I think we might even have seen it together.

#5 is Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I probably wouldn't have been able to nail down which movie it was if they hadn't been showing it on cable so much recently (and if it weren't a movie that both my husband and I can agree on).

Yup. It has been on a lot lately, but I still like it.

*bouncing up and down in her seat like Hermione*

I figured out the movie trivia link between #5 and #13. Jonny Lee Miller (of the 1999 version of MANSFIELD PARK) was married (a long time ago) to Angelina Jolie (of MR. AND MRS. SMITH).

Thank you so much for the offer of a story!!! You made my day! I love H/G, R/H stories with funny Weasley banter and teasing, especially involving Gred & Forge teasing the Magic Quartet and vice versa. (Who can leave Ginny out of the Trio?! Blasphemy, I tell you.) If you want to make it post-Final Battle (DH-compliant), I can excuse Fred from being there. Or it could be a Missing Moment or AU, if you want to set it while the Quartet are still school-age.

Thank you again so much! :-D

Considering how much I like all the other movies on your list, I'm amazed that Mr. and Mrs. Smith is on there since I really loathed it. The Admiral and I looked at each other at the end of it and said, "Well, it's a good thing they're both so pretty, because that was terrible!"

That's ok. I think the Admiral and I are the only two people in the world who didn't love Pirates of the Carribean either.

There's always something.

I didn't expect to enjoy it when I watched it by accident the first time. Maybe if you like action films it's not a good one (I wouldn't know) but I think that as a romantic comedy it works brilliantly. The onscreen chemistry between Brad and Angelina is sizzling and I love the bits with the marriage therapist.

I don't know -- I guess I'm just old enough to prefer Prizzi's Honor. Even though I definitely prefer Brad Pitt to Jack Nicholson!

Nope, my brother loathed it and hated the sequels even more. His daughter made him take her. So that's three of you.

I will probably rent the sequels because I didn't hate it quite as much and just hate not knowing what everyone else is talking about...but I'll wait until the Admiral is gone, because he won't set eyes on another minute of it.

I enjoyed the first one but found the second rather disappointing and fell asleep (at the cinema in the afternoon!) during the third, even though the wonderful Geoffrey Rush was back. I know what you mean about wanting to know what people are talking about.

OK, you have a new thread for this. So it is Oscar Wilde. "The Importance of Being Earnest" was remade a few years ago and "An Ideal Husband" before that. Whichever it is, I bet Rupert Everett said the second line! I'll guess "An Ideal Husband" because I didn't really recognise the line, just guessed, and I know "The Importance of Being Earnest" a lot better (doesn't everyone?).

LADY JANE! Of course I've seen it but not for ages and ages. I do know it's Helena Bonham-Carter's first role, so the clue gave it away. I know which scene that line is from now. (#10, of course.)

Hooray! I didn't think anyone was going to get that one. And she says it early on in the film when she's so unaware that I really don't think she does mean it as an insult.

Yes. It sounds like a put down out of context but I can remember when she says it and it's more surprise that anyone would find it hard. I always think Helena Bonham-Carter would have made a brilliant Hermione when she was young. She even had the hair.

I know the last film but I can't remember either title. It's the one where all the three blokes (Rufus Sewell played one of them) fall for the same American girl isn't it? The bit I remember is Joseph Fiennes lying on the couch of his neighbour (Ray Winstone) unburdening himself of all the angst but it turns out he's a builder not a shrink.

Yes, that's the one. I love that bit at the end when it turns out Ray Winstone is a builder. It's called 'Martha Meet Frank, Daniel and Laurence'. In America it's called 'The Very Thought Of You'.

It was called "The Very Thought of You" here, which is odd as we usually get the UK titles. I've only seen it once but I enjoyed it. It was the Heathrow clue I got it by, as it obviously wasn't "Love Actually"!

I've seen this recently on one of our cable channels -- I love how Joseph Fiennes is telling the whole story to his neighbor and it turns out not to be the psychologist.
