Inspired by [profile] rhetoretician's post 'Anyone Can Learn To Draw' I hereby issue a [personal profile] stmargarets' style challenge.  You'll have to imagine the voice of the megalomaniac dictator.  Or Tony Hart.

The challenge is simply this: Post a drawing or painting in your journal, f-locked if you prefer, and link to it here.  They can be HP inspired if you like, or not if that's easier.  The aim is simply to encourage everyone to let their artistic side out and to take the plunge and show their work to other people.  Everyone on my flist is friendly so there's no need to be scared.

You can use any media you prefer - traditional or electronic.  Doodles on the back of an envelope are just as acceptable as enormous oil painted canvases.

I shall be asking for links on November 1st, so you have lots of time to get those creative juices flowing.

OK, this is a STUPID question, but how do you post the pics? Do you take digital pictures of the artwork and then load onto a picture site, then use that link?

*has never done this before*

You can either do that or if you have a scanner, that probably works better. If you have a program like Photoshop you can do a little tinkering with it on screen to get the colours and lighting right. Or of course you can do the whole thing on Photoshop.

I think LJ also has a facility for storing pictures but I use photobucket which is free and easy.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Hee hee. I loved Tony Hart. He could transform a scribble into a work of art with a single stroke of his chalk.

I can still see him doing this amazing art of foggy London with white chalk on black sugar paper and layers of tracing paper. It looked cool when he did it. If I'd tried it would have looked really crappy!

Ros! I'm on a different computer because my laptop is acting up, but I wanted to let you know that I recieved your package and my heart is full to bursting. What a wonderful gift you have given me. I actually read the letter first and stopped after the first paragraph to open the package. When I saw my rose icon on the back of a book, I thought you had made me a customized journal or something. Then I turned it over and I think I stopped breathing for a minute. *sniff* It was amazing to see that title and the picture of Ginny in the Strait Race over the map of New Zealand. And there were *my* words in the text - and Part I, Part II, just like I had envisioned. You even put in the table of contents and author's notes! I'm just overwhelmed. Thank you, Thank you. I think I'll go make a post on my lj so everyone will know how wonderful you are and how happy you've made me. *hugs* I guess that next chapter of Charlie/Kathleen had better be good! ;)

*squeeeee* You like it!!!! I was so happy when I thought of putting your icon on the back - because you're so generous in giving your readers so much pleasure, so I wanted this to be 'For You'. And I'm so pleased that it made you happy - you deserve to be.

Looking forward to some Charlie-goodness!!!

I'll pass on the challenge because:

1. I'm too technologically-challenged to post a drawing.

and

2. The author of that book has clearly never met ME and seen my efforts. I am the person in this world who can't draw! I'm prepared to accept that I'm the only person who can't but I'm not going to subject myself to the issues of low self-esteem that usually accompany my efforts at drawing.

Hmmm...what a good creative challenge. Once I get my hands on that book I'll definitely play--I've got a few ideas rolling around in my head already...

You could, of course. But if you had time to try something new that would be lovely.

November first is enough time ... I'll have to make a note somewhere to remember, but it's a good kick in the butt to pick up the drawing tools again. Thanks! You really have loads of wonderful ideas these days, don't you? Or is it just me catching up that feel like that? (This icon is a mandala I drew for my acupuncturist, a highly different approach to drawing).

Excellent. I wasn't sure if anyone would be interested in this challenge at all so I'm pleased that at least a few people are going to try it.

Um...can I participate? I have the drawing thing down pretty well (at least usually). Should I try something out of my comfort zone? Any suggestions?

Yes, yes, yes!! Open challenge - entrants of all standards and experience welcome. I'd love to have something of yours to link to.

I don't know that I know what your comfort zone is, except that I think I've only seen pencil drawings of yours. Why not try something with colour?
