Fic: Meeting the Weasleys
Thanks to everyone who read this the first time round and made helpful comments. I've revised the whole thing slightly - particularly my Percy chapter.
Prologue: A Strong and Independent Woman
Chapter One: Surprised by Ron
Chapter Two: Impressed by Percy
Chapter Three: Intrigued by Bill
Chapter Four: Overwhelmed by Fred and George
Chapter Five: Held by Charlie
Art: A Year of Living Dangerously
This won't make any sense unless you've read the opening chapter of stmargarets wonderful story 'A Year of Living Dangerously' featuring the original thinking woman's crumpet, Charlie Weasley, and her lovely OC, Kathleen Pen. I'm certain these aren't the pictures that were in St M's mind as she wrote, and (given my artistic limitations) they're not quite the pictures that were in my head as I read, but they're as close an approximation as I can get. A story like that, full of action and drama, was just begging for illustration in my view. And I had a lot of fun with biceps, freckles and red hair. And made myself face up to some of my demons - faces, hands and hair. If you click on the images, you get a proper sized picture.

Icons to celebrate all the crumpetness that is (Charlie) Weasley. Feel free to take any that tickle your fancy.

Date: 2007-05-02 09:02 pm (UTC)I love how you used the blue of the magic - and in each case where magic is shown you chose to show how they were connected and helping each other. Kathleen helping Charlie first and Charlie helping Kathleen. I love the diagonal of the stairs and the action you convey in those lines.
In the other connection picture - the horses are so gorgeous - you got the glowy palamino look with the feathery wings and the delicate hides. No wonder Charlie felt so protective of them. You also have the sinister figure waiting in the coach.
Then the other two pictures you drew are Charlie and Kathleen paired off - I love how his arm is on the back of the seat in the first one. Such a pretty arm! It's canon, you know - Charlie's arms.
Er - sorry - drifted off there.
The colors are wonderful with the red flames and her red sweater and his red hair - and then the blue rucksack and of course, the sinister black wand of the Death Eater.
I can't imagine how difficult the last picture must have been with the full on shot of Charlie and Kathleen (and the horse) I love how he's smiling and she's so much smaller than he is. (That's the way I thought of her - small and very feminine but not all that flamboyant.) I think she's a good contrast to Charlie and your drawings show that!
Sigh. I took 5,000 words and your four drawings told it all in 4,000. :) Thanks so much. I'm so thrilled you did this.

Date: 2007-05-02 10:28 pm (UTC)It was so much fun doing these, honestly. You write such vivid descriptions that it was easy to visualise each scene. I think the only thing I made up was the clothes each is wearing. Even the red leatherette seat in the coach is yours! And when I put the four together and realised how they fell into the two pairs, I realised how well constructed your story was. The parallel situations of each hanging on by magic, connected to the other, alternated with the parallel situations of sitting close to each other, first in defence and second in escape.
The horses were fun to draw - though I did forget to put the wings on at first. LOL. That's kind of why the wings are quite small and a bit translucenty, because I didn't want to have to change anything else.
Where are Charlie's arms in canon?!? I must go and look immediately.
