Friday five (late as per)
Oct. 13th, 2018 09:53 pm(1) What was the best compliment you ever received?
When I finished my last job they did a review of it including a survey of people who had engaged with it in different ways, and I got to read the responses which made me cry, because I'd had no idea of the impact it had had. My favourite was the person who described me as 'brilliant, but subtle about it'. That's mostly what I aim for, so it's very pleasing to have achieved it.
(2) What are five talents of yours? (I have changed the question, because I have no idea if these are my best. Very low on my list of talents is the ability to judge myself accurately.)
1. Learning new things
2. Teaching
3. Thinking on my feet
4. Making things
5. Resting
(3). What do you wish most people knew about you, and why?
I wish people knew that I find it almost impossible to tell anyone I love them or show physical affection, but that doesn't mean I don't love them.
(4). What has been your biggest accomplishment so far, and why does it mean so much to you?
Starting the Priscilla Programme. Because 20 years ago I had this sense that something needed to be done and maybe I could do it. And 18 years ago it looked a bit like a plan, if only I could find a way of making it work. And then 18 months ago, suddenly the intervening years all fell into place to make it the right time to make it happen. And although a LOT of people have given me a LOT of support, this is mine. It would not be happening without me and it stands or falls because of me. I am really, really proud of that.
(But also, finishing the PhD.)
(5). If you could achieve anything in your life, what would it be?
Well, I would have said what is now the Priscilla Programme, but I've done that. I guess what I want now is to build it into something lasting that is bigger than me. To identify and train up the people who will take it further than I can. To leave it to another generation in 20 years time. Something like that.
