I'd rather have less information than more, thank you very much. For one thing, it messes up the whole vision. If it was cut from the original, then it doesn't matter to the story and if it doesn't matter to the story, then it doesn't support the theme or the imagery or the characterization or some other aspect. So sometimes the new info is simply jarring and doesn't align with the books. Good fan fiction can open up a book - bad fanfiction, like too much info, can distort the books. The magic is located in the books so I don't want my vision distorted. I think that's why I don't like to hear the "other stuff."
