Any ideas?

Does anyone happen to know why, since I downloaded Firefox 3, I am unable to view any Google maps? I can search for things as normal but the screen just comes up grey with the red arrow helpfully pointing out the right spot in the middle of all the greyness. It'll even find me directions between two grey points and mark the route. Might there be some setting that needs changing to allow the images?
ETA: On closer inspection, what happens is that after loading for a while, I get the message that Google has no images at that level and I should try zooming out. This is clearly nonsense, but also probably not a Firefox problem.

Date: 2008-06-30 04:26 am (UTC)My husband is working in Google Maps, and when I told him of your post, he asked for the details. Are you using a proxy server? Also, as I understand, you are now in England, right?
Also, could you please let me know if you can see a map image on this link?

Thanks for your help! He'll chase down the issue.

Date: 2008-06-30 08:14 am (UTC)I get the same thing whether I put in a town or a postcode. I've searched for (among others):
Dingwall: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=dingwall&ie=UTF8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&ll=57.598749,-4.428005&spn=0.023732,0.075188&z=14&iwloc=addr
Inverness: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=inverness&ie=UTF8&ll=57.482434,-4.231453&spn=0.095231,0.300751&z=12&iwloc=addr
Oxford: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=oxford&ie=UTF8&ll=51.758915,-1.255875&spn=0.109654,0.300751&z=12&iwloc=addr
And specific addresses including:
OX4 3BG: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=ox4+3bg&ie=UTF8&ll=51.741274,-1.230512&spn=0.006856,0.018797&z=16&iwloc=addr
I have no idea if I'm using a proxy server. And yes, I'm in England.
When I checked these just now, for some of them I got an entirely blank image as before, but for a couple I did get a patchy image with some squares of the map showing and others not.
Thank you!

Date: 2008-06-30 01:19 pm (UTC)- In Firefox, go to Tools->Options->Advanced->Network->Connections->Settings ; if you have anything other than the first box ("Direct connections") checked, then you're using a proxy
I don't know the equivalent navigation for IE, but should be similar. The reason I asked about proxy is that some proxy servers are configured to not allow traffic from certain sites. Also, hubby says they've had problems with some ISPs: their customers are unable to see maps. Since the problem fixed itself in your case, it looks like a temporary mess-up. However, if you continue having problems, please let me know.
Since you mentioned looking for accommodation, I'll do a plug for Google here :-) You can search directly on Google Maps for things like "hotel near " or "hotel in Oxford". (Or "B&B" or "hostel" or whatever). You'll get a list of hotels, with as many details as available for each (including reviews). Many people are not aware of this. :-)
