It's neck and neck! Though white_hart has been no help at all, voting for both 'Yes, think of the icons' and 'No, you're a poor student'. I'm the one with the dilemma - you're supposed to solve it. *g* This has also made the voting and the percentages appear skewed wrongly.

Well I thought LJ is the evil one (not teh). They are always screwing up something. Threatening censorship (this thing or the other). They owned now by Russians. They has passed through various owners. So who knows how long this will last?

Well, I think you should go for paid - not only to get room for loads of icons, but also to avoid all the ads. Because, when you have a paid account, you don't see the ads on other people's journals, no matter how many ads they have. To me, you're all ad-free, and I love that. But, if you feel strongly that being a poor student is a big part of your identity, then maybe you should wait. I was annoyed at first that LJ ended up on Russian hands, but I decided to be magnanimous and trust them. There has to be honest Russians around as well... hopefully even in big corporations.

I said "Yes" because I always like to encourage people to spend money they don't have. It makes me feel better about being tight with my own money!

I voted both yes and other, so I'll explain myself. :) Perhaps you could start by trying out the paid account for a couple of months, to see if you think it's worth it before purchasing a longer term.

I voted 'other', but it's more like a qualified 'yes'. I have a paid account, and I enjoy it. I'm a big believer in having the small indulgences of life, so my answer depends on whether or not you'll really enjoy having the paid account or not. If you want it, then I say go for it. The cost isn't too much, and if it gives you more of a smile in your day because of the icon options or whatever, then that makes it worth it, in my opinion.

I added a comment on your later thread. If you want to treat yourself this way and enjoy all the pretties, go ahead. I'd rather spend my money on other things, so I'll probably only ever have a basic free account.
