The world was coming to an end.
That was the only rational explanation. Harry looked around him wildly for his wand, even while he knew it was useless. The screaming intensified and the thunder outside the room grew louder.
‘Harry!’ A hand caught his, gripping it tightly. ‘Harry, do something! Now!’
There was nothing to be done. The gods had been invoked months previously and he could only watch and wait while the fabric of the universe fell apart.
Then abruptly, everything shifted, reorganising itself into a new pattern. A new person. Not the end of the world.
The beginning.
