Befriending

It's always nice when someone asks to become your friend.  Welcome [profile] daksian!

But the usual way of expressing that 'to friend someone' is a horridly ungrammatical turn of phrase.  There is an already existing and delightful term that would perfectly fulfil the function: 'to befriend'.

So next time you find someone you'd like to be friends with, why not befriend them instead?

"Befriend" - good call! I hate "friend" too, infact all those nouns that have been turned into verbs, and vice versa, tend to get on my nerves (I don't even like "quote" when someone means "quotation" but I accept that is too universally used for me to change the tide). I usually put it in long hand and ask to put someone on my friends' list. "Befriend" sounds quite poetic. I shall remember that.

I like your new icon, by the way!

I got it all by myself too! I thought I'd just bring Young(ish) Albus out for parties as he probably looks a bit odd to someone wh is unaware of his drinks waiter role.

Your post sounds SOOO much like a commercial, LOL! Good point, though.

Maybe I should move into advertising?

Thanks [livejournal.com profile] girlyswot, and a very good point indeed about grammar. Sadly, there are far too many 'shortcuts' taken with internet, and I'm guilty of using them from time to time (though I have to admit, 'lol' is much easier to write than 'laughing out loud' all the time!)

But yeah, I can do without the 'ur' instead of 'your' or 'you're', and the like. So befriending it is!
