Help!

I'm entering a competition and there's one question I find myself completely stumped on. Does anyone have any idea what book this might be referring to? I can't even work out a way of googling it!

You are researching the occult in the British Library. You accept a file of papers passed to you by a fellow student who says he thinks it should be yours. Inside the file is a slip of paper with strange characters on it. What should you do next?

Thank you!

DaVinci Code? I don't know - I didn't read it. That's my first guess. I'll think about it some more.

I didn't read it either and also thought it might be, but I can't find anything that fits with the scene. Thanks, anyway!

I'm pretty sure it isn't the Da Vinci code (I don't think there were any first person bits). It sounds like a Choose Your Own Adventure book...

Sorry, maybe I didn't make it clear. This isn't a quote from the book, just a description of a scene in the book.

Will rack my brains, but it sounds like a challenging quiz!

I don't think it's the Da Vinci code, either. My immediate response was that I'd study the characters and then ask the one who passesd me the papers what they are? If that's not possible, I'd ask the librarian.... Surely there mush be a book in the British Library that tells about characters like that?

Unfortunately, it's multiple choice!

The occult and 'strange characters' says viking runes or ogham to me. Or Alasdair Crowley.

Sorry, I'm not much help. My very first thought was more or less what Amamama said: I'd ask the Senior Reader for advice.
