Flying meme
1. Where did you go the last time you took an airplane ride?
Heathrow. From Geneva, where I had spent a couple of days, as well as a week in the nearby French alps, last summer.
2. Are you a nervous flyer or a comfortable flyer?
Neither. I hate heights, so I pretend I'm on a train, which mostly works fine unless I inadvertently glance out of a window. But I find the whole process distinctly uncomfortable and unpleasant. Airports are horrid, planes are full of people, the food is foul, the toilets smell, and every time I fly anywhere I promise myself I'll never do it again.
3. Window seat or aisle seat?
Aisle, every time. Partly for the aforementioned window issue, and partly because I would always rather be disturbed than have to disturb someone else.
4. What is the worst experience you've had flying?
From Philly to Manchester in 2007. There was appalling weather at Manchester. We had to circle for ages and it felt like being on a rollercoaster. Genuinely thought I might throw up, but fortunately did not. Not everyone on the flight was so lucky. We were the last plane allowed to land that morning before they started diverting them elsewhere.
5. What is the best experience you've had flying?
The last flight home from America I went via Chicago because it was so much cheaper. The flight from O'Hare was almost empty, so I had four seats to myself, and I could actually lie down and sleep! Also they had English snacks on the flight, rather than American ones, which was a great joy to me at the time.
