I'm not sure we actually need another Austen adaptation...

...but given that we're apparently getting one, I'm quite excited that Romola Garai is going to be Emma, and very excited indeed that Jonny Lee Miller is going to be Mr Knightley.

It is ten years since the last Emma, and I don't feel any of the adaptations I have seen have done it justice (although I nonetheless enjoyed the film and Jeremy Northam in particular), so I'm quite pleased that it is getting a decent bit of screen time. And Romola Garai is great. I only hope they don't feel obliged to sex it up too much. I remember an interview with Andrew Davies who had thought about doing it, and wanting to include Mr Knightley as a young man on a Grand Tour acquiring a sexual education...

Andrew Davies should be shot.

I still haven't quite forgiven him for Pride and Prejudice. And I am very scared to see that IMDB lists him with a credit for Middlemarch (2010). I don't want to see that being sexed up, thank you very much.

Oh, Andrew Davies. I wish he'd go and find some other virginal author to bother. I'd like to see him trying to put extraneous sex scenes in the works of Julian of Norwich.

Though actually, even the title of Sixteen Revelations Of Divine Love would probably overexcite him, and he'd end up writing inappropriate scenes involving a soft-focus and dialogue-free Sodom and Gomorrah.
