Yes, crossover is the word I was looking for. I don't think she has ever actually sung an opera, whereas I think Lesley Garrett probably has. Though I do find Lesley Garrett intensely irritating.
I blame the 1992 World Cup and the attendant Three Tenors concert for all this opera singers singing popular music stuff. It's got very popular with people like Amici and Il Divo cashing in on the act. I don't actually know of Katherine Jenkins but I get the picture.

The thing with Katherine Jenkins is that I don't think she has ever actually sung in an opera. She sings arias and such, but as solos, not playing a role in the theatre. So I really object to her being called an opera singer.
