It had been years since I'd seen it but the Christmas Carol one-off was on at Christmas and she watched it then and was keen to see the real thing. She didn't like the first one so we only got the intensive watching of the last three. It was a nice change from Hairspray!
The ending was terribly sad. It is amazing that a comedy could produce such a poignant testimony to war, even down to the 1914-1917 line. I prefer 2, if only for the concrete elephant line, but the version in number 3 is so like my brother it's scary. I had lunch with my mother part way through the first time it was shown and she said "Do you know who he reminds me of?" to which the answer was "Yes!"
