It's getting to look a lot like Christmas

Which in November, isn't my top choice. However, last night saw the start of Christmas decoration in my house. Have I mentioned that I love where I'm living?

And a close up of their chilly little faces...

What happened was that the Christmas decorations are stored in a cupboard up on my floor. So when I was coming down, I picked up the last couple of bags. As I was coming down the stairs, my landlady asked what I'd got.

Me: (looking in one of the bags) A dead bird. And some fairy lights.

Landlord: (also not taking this seriously) There should be more than one dead bird.

Landlady: (holding up one of the little dolls with wire round its neck) Do you think these would look cute hanging from a tree?'

Landlord: (several minutes later) I think Ros is hyperventilating.

The phone rings. While the landlady goes to answer it, I hide half a dozen of the dolls in various places around the room - on the snowman's hat, over the toy soldier's drum, in among the carollers, in a pumpkin, in Santa's sack (did I mention, she really likes Christmas decorations?)

The evening is spent finding the dolls and wiring them to the tree, which then has to be hidden in the den because none of us can look at it without laughing. I'm the last to go to bed so before I do, I take one of the dolls and attach it to the kitchen cupboard, so it hangs down over the oven. But when I got upstairs and opened my fridge - well, I admit they won that round.

The chilly little dolls are now hanging by the fireplace...
