An alphabet of authors

Gakked from [personal profile] callmemadam.  As an aside, one of my earliest memories is being taken to see Call Me Madam at the Birmingham Hippodrome with Noelle Gordon.  I remember almost nothing except one song which was reprised at least three or four times due to the wild applause of the audience.  It was a really thrilling experience in the theatre.

I believe the challenge is to name an author and list one of your favourite of their novels.

A is for Jane Austen; and I'm going to choose Mansfield Park, though this is a difficult decision.
B is for Anne Bronte; The Tenant of Wildfell Hall
C is for Agatha Christie; The ABC Murders
D is for Roald Dahl; Danny, The Champion of the World
E is for George Eliot; Middlemarch
F is for Antonia Forest; The Cricket Term
G is for Diana Gabaldon; and my favourite is Voyager
H is for Georgette Heyer; so hard to pick just one but I'm going to say A Civil Contract
I is for Kazuo Ishiguro; The Remains of the Day
J is for Jerome K. Jerome; Three Men in a Boat
K is for Ryszard Kapuscinski (because I'm reading him at the moment); The Cobra's Heart
L is for C. S. Lewis; The Silver Chair
M is for Lucy Maud Montgomery; Anne of the Island
N is for E. Nesbit; The Railway Children (it still makes me cry every time)
O is for George Orwell; Animal Farm
P is for Elizabeth Peters; The Crocodile on the Sandbank
Q is for
R is for J. K. Rowling; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
S is for Dorothy L. Sayers; Busman's Honeymoon (though Gaudy Night is a very close second)
T is for Sue Townsend; The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole aged 13 3/4
U is for
V is for Salley Vickers; Mr Golightly's Holiday
W is for P. G. Wodehouse; Galahad at Blandings
X is for
Y is for
Z is for

This is hard!  I may have cheated a little (is Google cheating?), but I still can't think of anyone for 'N'.  Maybe I should have read Nabokov, but I haven't.  And surely there must be somebody 'Young' who I've read, but nothing springs to mind.  Ah well.  I shall try to fill in the blanks sometime.
