Because it feels like a while since I've done a meme, even though it probably isn't.

Hardback, trade paperback or mass market paperback? It depends on the book. For reading in the bath, paperbacks. For looking lovely and lasting a lifetime, hardback. I can't see the point of trade paperbacks, other than to get you to spend more money for bigger fonts and empty space. I want words for my money!

Barnes & Noble or Borders? Borders is the nearest bookshop to me (apart from the university bookshop), though I prefer Waterstones. I love second-hand bookshops too.

Bookmark or dog-ear? Dog-ear.

Amazon or brick-and-mortar? Both. If I'm browsing and looking for something new and interesting, or if I want instant books, then obviously the real shop is better. For more considered purchases, online is usually cheaper.

Alphabetize by author, or alphabetize by title, or random? By colour. Although at the moment, everything is in so many places that it's more random than anything.

Keep, throw away, or sell? Keep. I have thrown away a very small handful of books - either because they have actually fallen apart or because they were so awful that I couldn't bear the thought that someone else might end up reading them. When I have to cull, they go to the charity shop. I've sold a few textbooks and things like that.

Keep dust jacket or toss it? They go. I know that's bad. Sorry.

Read with dust jacket or remove it? Remove.

Short story or novel? It's rare for me to enjoy a short story. I don't often read them and when I do I'm usually left feeling unsatisfied.

Harry Potter or Lemony Snicket? Haven't read Lemony Snicket.

Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks? Tired. Chapter breaks are no good because there's always a cliffhanger to keep you reading!

“It was a dark and stormy night” or “Once upon a time”? Once upon a time. Definitely.

Buy or borrow? I don't mind borrowing some books but there's a lot that I like to own. I am an inveterate re-reader and so if I like something, I like to have it.

Buying choice: book reviews, recommendations, or browse? Yes.

Tidy ending or cliffhanger? Generally tidy. I like to be left thinking about things but not in a 'what happened next, I can't wait for the next book' kind of way.

Morning reading, afternoon reading, or nighttime reading? Yes.

Stand-alone or series? Don't mind. I'm slowly working my way through the Amelia Peabody series at the moment and enjoying that.

Favorite series? Marlow stories.

Favorite children’s book? Just one? Oh, dear. Um. Maybe Anne of Green Gables.

Favorite book of which nobody else has heard? The Da Vinci Code. (Okay, I lied.)

Favorite books read last year? On Chesil Beach; The Spymaster's Lady.

Favorite books of all time? (I have decided to limit myself to no more than one from any author.) Mansfield Park; Devil's Cub; Little Women; The Cricket Term; Gaudy Night; Persuasion. (I cheated.)

What are you reading right now? The Tomb of the Golden Bird

What are you reading next? Dunno

Favorite book to recommend to an 11-year-old? It would depend a lot on the 11 year old. At that age I was starting to enjoy Agatha Christie, I think.

Favorite book to re-read? Good Wives. Because one day, Jo is going to say yes when Laurie asks her.

Do you ever smell books? Um, no. Is it me or is that a weird question?

Do you ever read primary source documents like letters or diaries? I read the diary of Anne Frank. But mainly I read fiction for fun and save the rest for work.
